Q: Where do you make your product?

A: Sleeping Bear Food Company makes Hibernating Honey at Mamasita's Kitchen Rental, 1480 Old Deerfield Rd., Unit 16, Highland Park, Illinois, 60035.

Q: Are these ingredients safe and healthy?

A: To my knowledge, of course. They're in many other supplements on the market and have been discussed in many research articles and media/podcasts for years. I've been researching health, wellness & sleep for a decade and these are the things I've found that work and feel best, and I've tried everything.

Q: How long should this bottle last me?

A: If you take a tablespoon every night, about a month. I take two tablespoons at night, but there are some nights I don't take any...maybe I went to an event, or I'm traveling, etc., so it kind of balances out.

Q: Will this help me sleep?

A: I think it's quite likely. But it's not a miracle and you can't outrun awful lifestyle factors. If you're currently drinking a bunch of caffeine (especially after the morning) and you're not getting a little sunlight and at least going for a 20-30 minute walk everyday and you're stressed to gills with work and family life and you're not even making an attempt to wind down for bed ahead of a reasonable hour...well that's asking a lot.

Getting good sleep is a fine balance between caring enough to do some of the right things, but not caring so much that you're neurotic about it; obsessing over your sleep can have a negative effect for some people.

Good sleep is about routine and listening to your body. This product is meant to be the first domino you nudge over as you tell yourself it's time to relax and let go a bit. This product is not going to knock you out like other terrible drugs on the market...Ambien or Clonazepam (Klonopin), as examples.

Q: Can I take more than the recommended dose of 1-2 tablespoons? Is that safe?

A: I don't see why not, but you shouldn't really have to take a ton more. I've seen individual supplements with many more servings per container, and I've personally taken much more before. For example, how much Magnesium or Reishi or Vitamin B6 can you safely take? I don't know but it's probably somewhat difficult to take an unsafe amount. Experiment for yourself and see how you feel. I'd start with the recommended 1-2 tablespoons and go from there. I myself take 2 tablespoons each night.

Q: Why don't you include melatonin in your product?

A: A couple reasons. First, it's very hit or miss depending on the person. A lot of people wake up groggy when taking it, and others wake up in the middle of the night wide awake. Your body's level of the hormone melatonin increases and decreases in a very orchestrated way...it's not a lump sum at once, nor is it a strict linear release/decrease. Second, I'm not so sure it's advisable to be taking that hormone for prolonged periods of time. However, if you want melatonin, it's very easy to add to your nightly regimen because every sleep product on the shelf has it. You can do your own research and decide for yourself.

Q: Why don't you include THC or CBD in your product?

A: THC has been shown to reduce REM sleep. REM sleep is your dreaming phase, first starting in waves around the middle of your sleep cycle and clustered toward the end before waking. For example, if you've ever woken up too early and didn't get enough REM, you may have noticed that you were less emotionally ready for the day and maybe you were a little more impulsive, maybe crave some bad food, etc. Regardless of whether THC helps you "pass out," the reduction in REM is bad for your quality of sleep. And with respect to CBD, I'm not convinced of it for various reasons either.
